Care

We want you to enjoy your luxurious new eye heart hand rug for years to come. Good news, this won’t be difficult!

High Peak strong wool is extraordinarily care free because of its natural strength and the lanolin that helps repel dirt and stains.

Simple, regular maintenance is all that is needed to keep your eye heart hand rug looking good for many years.

Unpacking Your Rug

We use the highest quality natural materials available. As a result, when first unpacked, one of our tufted rugs may emit a temporary odor. This is from two sources: the rug’s pure, unbleached wool and its natural latex content (in the thin layer between the wool and the cotton backing). The scent will go away in the first few days and weeks. To hasten the process, just air out the rug for a day or two in a dry, breezy location.

Rug Pads

We recommend a rug pad underneath every area rug. We offer a high quality rug pad made of recycled felt and natural rubber in Connecticut. Rug pads extend the life of your rug as they absorb wear and tear from the friction between floor and rug. In addition, they provide extra cushion and help you to avoid accidents from slipping on moving rugs and tripping on turned up edges. Rotate rugs every 3 to 6 months for even wear. This will balance normal wear and extend the life of your rug.

Sprouts

It is unlikely, but if any fibers should come loose, snip with scissors. Do not pull.

Curling

The weight of eye heart hand rugs is substantial and if there is curling after unpacking, this should disappear in a week or so. Reverse rolling usually does the trick.

Shedding

eye heart hand’s tight closed-loop construction and long-staple wool make for much less shedding than you’ll find in other tufted wool rugs.

Vacuuming

Don’t vacuum your rug with a beater bar or rotating bar on.

Use the handheld attachment to vacuum your rug without the 'rotating ‘beater bar’ on.

Brooms are a great, gentle way to clear your rug off.

Canister vacuums without beater bars are the most effective.

Spot Cleaning

  • With a naturally high lanolin content in the wool we use, our rugs initially repel liquid giving you those extra moments you’ll need to clean spills.

  • If you spill on a rug, clean it ASAP. Once the stain is set in it becomes more difficult to clean.

  • Blot with a clean white cloth or towel. Never rub a spill as doing so will force the spill deeper into the wool fiber.

  • Use a solution of diluted white vinegar and water (1:10 parts), or a diluted wool cleaning liquid to remove any residual stain.

  • Always use clean water to remove any residual cleaner, and dry towels to absorb any remaining moisture.

Professional Cleaning

To fully clean a wool rug, use a professional cleaning expert. Cleaning a handmade rug is different than cleaning wall to wall carpet. Inspect the rug with the cleaner before it is cleaned. Get a signed receipt and guarantee of work before the work is done.

We stand behind our natural wool rugs.
